![]() ![]() Your utilities (electric, gas, etc.) will go up now that you're at home all day.Depending on how active your personal life is, you may have to make deliberate plans to leave the house to avoid being cooped up indoors.Don't forget to also give you eyes a break at this time as well. Remember to stand up, stretch, walk around every so often.You can easily get carried away now that you're already at home and don't need to commute. Be careful of work spilling into personal time.Get a comfortable chair (and desk) that allows for proper ergonomics.If possible, have a dedicated work area (spare bedroom or even just a corner that you don't need outside of work-hours).This allows me to decompress, step away from my desk, and get back home in a more "This is relaxing time" mood. It's far too easy to keep working for little bits after your day should have ended since there is no "Going home." For instance, I get off at 4:30pm and to "end" my day I shut down my computer and go for a walk with my dog. If you get off at 5pm, make sure your coworkers and boss know that you turn off your computer at that time and to only call you if it's an emergency and the ship is sinking. Don't nickle and dime yourself after hours. I'd also push for an ergonomic mouse and keyboard. Make the company pay for them if you think you can get away with it. You're about to be spending 8-9 hours a day in it at home, make sure it's comfy. IF anything it's always nice to have a friendly face, and he forces me to get off my butt and go for walks for his sake and mine. ![]() Get up every 1-2 hours and take a short 5-10 minute walk around the block.ĭon't know whether you live alone or with family, but I found having my beagle, Samwise, was a life saver. Not by much, hopefully, but it will go up. Being able to separate that space from the rest of your life will 100% help with any burnout you may start to experience. Whether that's a different room, or a laptop you can unplug and put away if you're working at the kitchen table. So first off, make sure that your home office is in a place where you can turn it off and not look at it. ![]()
