All you have to really do is bring up the “Terrain Response System” on the central touchscreen and slot it into “Sand”. It makes the daunting task of driving over hungry dunes threatening to devour you whole seem invigorating. It may not have the Alcantara-bathed trappings of a Range Rover, but the Defender is still very much a luxury offering. The convoy has just passed the decaying carcass of what looks like an old-and burnt-Nissan Patrol, giving us some idea of what sort of temperatures the Defender is insulating us from.
